And the Winners Were...

In case you missed it, tonight we announced the winners for this year's Shorty Awards. And, if you were there, you know that we had a slew of technical difficulties. For instance, we had three winners and one movie to show. But that's okay! That's okay because they're all online and available to watch at last! Isn't that just fantastic? We know, we know, calm down now.
So, in case you missed it, or didn't see the movies, here were the winners:

Under 17 - Steve Kirby for "It Came from the Fridge"

Over 17 - Ken Schutter for "Once Upon a Blob"

Fan Favorite Award - Mark Mihalko for "It Lives Somewhere in Jersey"

Thanks to all who voted and congratulations to those who won! We apologize if your movie didn't win or wasn't shown tonight. There were a few last-minute difficulties that occurred but it sure won't happen next year.
In all, we had a good year and we enjoyed ourselves. And if you didn't get the chance to make a movie, but really wanted to, don't worry; there's always next year. So get to plannin' and film your movie fast, because Blobfest 2011 will be here before you know it.
Thanks for a great evening, ladies and germs! See you next year!

Hello, Interweb.
It's been a few weeks since we last talked, and we feel it's time that we got back together again. Maybe take things a bit more slowly this time, settle in with a nice movie, and then chow down on some cookie dough and think of the good times.
That or we could do some more talking about this year's BlobFest. Us, we're going to go with Option B. Meh!

Hey, We Have an Official Poster!

Yes, lords and ladies, it would appear that the Shorty Awards have their own poster for this year. You can see it below.

Ain't it a beaut'? If you want to see it up close and personally, you need only click it.
The poster was designed by the Shorty's very own Matt McGinnis (hooray for shameless plugs!) and can be seen on the Colonial Theatre's website, on the BlobFest Events page (which can be seen here).
And don't forget to make those movies, friends. Submissions are due June 15th now, hear?

BlobFest and the Colonial Theatre on Facebook?

Yes, it's true. Even on the virtual escape known as the Internet, the Blob is spreading, and remains an unfathomable, unstoppable force. So why not become a fan of the dreaded beast that we celebrate every summer? It's fun!

You can become a fan of BlobFest HERE!

And you can even become a fan of the very theatre that houses BlobFest and was even featured in scenes from The Blob HERE!

Of course, if you don't have Facebook, you can do neither of these things. Don't you feel left out now?
And don't forget, SUBMISSIONS FOR THE SHORTY AWARDS ARE DUE JUNE 15th! Why are you still reading this?

Hey, Everyone, We Have a Deadline!!

ATTENTION ALL FILMMAKERS!

The time is drawing near, and we are all filled with excitement and dread, as this year's BlobFest is almost upon us (July 9-11). So, what are you waiting for? GO OUT THERE AND MAKE A MOVIE!!
Rules for this year's Shorty Awards have been posted at the Colonial Theatre's website (found here). You can go there to read them, but if you're just too lazy to type in a few simple characters on your keyboard, you can find out everything you need to know at this page:

BLOBFEST 2010 EVENTS!

There you will find one of those fancy PDF files containing the guidelines for the contest, but as a public service, we thought it appropriate to post them here as well. So, here goes:

-All entries must be family friendly. No guts, blood, cursing, scantily clad women, or anything of that sort will be allowed. Glad we got that out of the way.
-All entries must be FIVE MINUTES OR LESS. Any more minutes and that's just too many minutes. We can't have too many minutes, so five minutes is the set minutes.
-All entries must be uploaded to YouTube by JUNE 15th. Alright? June 15th. No late entries, y'all; that date's set in stone.
-As the entries are received, they will be favorited to the Shorty's YouTube page (found here) so that everyone can see them. The blog will also be updated whenever a new film is entered. That way everyone can watch them, whether they win or not. Then everybody happy.
-On JUNE 28th, the finalists will be announced at the Colonial Theatre's website (found here, in case you missed it the first time), and everyone will be able to vote for their favorite, which will ultimately win the Fan Favorite Award. The other awards will be divided into two categories (Under 18 and Over 18), so there will be three awards in all.
-The winning films will be shown on the first night of BlobFest 2010, on JULY 9th. All winners will be notified beforehand and will probably want to attend, so they can pick up their shiny blobby award and see their masterpiece on the big screen.

So, there you have it folks, the rules and regulations for BlobFest 2010 Shorty Awards. We highly suggest that you all get to making your movies on the double, as the due date is approaching fast. So get to steppin' and we'll see you in July!

BlobFest 2010 Approaching!

BlobFest 2010 is approaching soon, and with that comes the annual Shorty Awards. Jon and I will be running them this year - much like the previous two - but we're changing the rules just a smidgen. First, Blob-related films are encouraged, but average, awful b-movies are expected. Forget Citizen Kane and think more Plan 9 from Outer Space. Pick inspiration from unforgettable titles like Eegah! and Teenagers from Outer Space. Or Robot Monster, if you're feeling adventurous. The more B the better, but not in the Jerry Seinfeld way.
Another thing to remember is that this is a family-friendly event. 'S for the kids. So, you must keep your films FAMILY-ORIENTED. Remember, there were no such things as vulgarities in the '50s. So, keep it kind.
And remember, the whole idea of the contest is to have fun. We encourage movies that aren't masterpieces. In fact, the more ridiculous, the better! B-sci-fi trailers are also accepted (and loved). If you're lucky enough, you could win your very own handmade statue of the Blob, and who wouldn't love to put something like that above the fireplace, right under the family Christmas photo?
Here is an example of the kind of quality we're looking for:

And if you're sittin' there at your computer desk starin' at the dang screen, askin' yourself, "Hey, what the heck is this darn BlobJunkFest, and I wonder if they got a cool site page or somethin' that I can check out for myself and learn some more about it, because I don't know much about it and would like to know more," then have we got the page for you:

The Colonial Theatre - BlobFest

You go there, and you'll learn everything you gotta know about this BlobThing.
The festival takes place in July, so begin working NOW! Submissions are due by the end of June. We'll keep everyone posted on further rules and instructions. So PLEASE SUBSCRIBE!!!1
Cheers, doggi-os.
